Elaine Burns, age 82 of McFarland, Wisconsin passed away in her home on Tuesday, May 8, 2018. Elaine was born December 15, 1935 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to the late John and Ethel (Larson) Thurner. On October 10, 1953 she married Jerry Burns in Monona, Wisconsin. Elaine was a bus driver in the McFarland school district for 48 years. She was very active in sports including many years playing semi-pro fast pitch baseball, volley ball, bowling, and golf. She and her late husband Jerry (July 29, 1933 – April 28, 2018) loved camping, motorcycling, canoeing, and snowmobiling. The McFarland community will remember Jerry and Elaine as very avid McFarland walkers. They made many friends during their seventeen years of winter months in Harlingen, Texas as well as adventures traveling with friends and family. Elaine loved her family and friends. She is survived by her children: Mike (Karen) Burns and David Burns of McFarland; grandchildren: Cari McPherson of Rio, Wisconsin, Stephanie Landphier, of Wyocena, Wisconsin, & Randy Burns of Wyocena, Wisconsin; and four great grandchildren: Taylor, Marissa, Chet & Cayden. She is also survived by her brother Bob (Peg) Thurner, of McFarland, Carol (Arlen) Algrem of McFarland, Karen (Roger) Karsten of Reedsburg, and brother-in-law Harold (Marie) Thompson of Harlingen, Texas as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jerry Burns; sister, Marie (Harold) Thompson of Harlingen, Texas and sister-in-law Peg (Bob) Thurner of McFarland. A private family funeral service will be held at Roselawn cemetery. There will be a Jerry & Elaine Burns Celebration of Life party for friends and family, to be announced at a later date.
